Let’s Dance!

Basic Swing and Basic Ballroom

We have two great dance classes starting next week!  Instructor John Hernandez has over 30 years of dancing experience, and welcomes all of you for a dancing experience full of fun and excitement.

Basic Swing – Learn this dominant style of Swing! Known as one of the traditional and basic dances, Swing can be danced to a variety of music such as Rock, Oldies, Country, and Latin.  Class will be structured for beginners and the novice dancer.  Learn the basic steps with techniques on how to lead and follow.  Patterns in this class are designed to make the student confident about his or her ability to execute them in a social setting.  this is a partner rotating class where singles and couples are welcome.  Class meets on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm, 9/11-10/16, at Mountain View Elementary School, located at 2002 E. Alluvial Ave, on the corner of Alluvial and Maple.  Cost is $69.

Basic Ballroom – Has all the dance coverage on television excited you?  Join the class and learn swing, cha cha and salsa.  Class will be structured for beginners and will include basic steps, leading, following techniques, and patterns designed to make the student confident to execute them in a social setting.  This is a rotating partner class where singles and couples are welcome.  Class meets on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm, 9/12-10/17, at Maple Creek Elementary, located at 2025 E. Teague Ave, corner of Teague and Maple.  Cost is $69.

Medicare 101

Take the Guesswork out of Medicare!

Are you or your spouse approaching 65?  Are you helping a friend or family member with Medicare?  Medicare is confusing…so let us simplify it.

In this class you will learn the different parts of Medicare, how it works, when and how to sign up or when to delay without penalty.  If you are still on your employer plan, married and your spouse is under 65, there are solutions for you, too.  you will better understand your Medicare options and the type of plan to choose for your budget, lifestyle and medical needs.  Plus, we will show you how to find the best prescription drug plan for you, learn if you qualify for grants to help pay for your prescriptions, gain tips and tricks to stay out of the GAP, and find out if you qualify for Medi-Cal over the age of 65.  Pick one class to get all your information!  Snacks will be provided!

Stress Happens!

Rather than fussing about the stress in our lives, we can put our energy into finding ways to become more stress-hardy.  In this class we will explore stress-relieving techniques that can be used immediately:  breathing to relax, guided imagery and gentle exercise for tension relief, mindfulness, simple time management, and work/life balance tips, and much more.  We invite you to take this opportunity to discover what calm and self-care can bring to your daily life.  Instructor Lynn Kimbark has worked in the medical field for over 25 years as a Health Educator, guiding her patients and clients on their path to wellness, positive self-care, and stress management.

Labor Day 2018

Enjoy the three day weekend!  The Community Ed office and Clovis Adult campus will be closed on Monday, September 3rd, for the Labor Day holiday.  We will resume classes as scheduled, and our normal office hours of 8:00am-8:00pm on Tuesday, 9/4.

Beginning Crochet

Beginning Crochet Class

Crocheting is becoming a lost art.  This class will start you off in reviving this art.  Crocheting will provide you with hours of relaxation and enjoyment while making beautiful creations for yourself, or gifts for family and friends.  Learn the basic stitches, how to read patterns and understand abbreviations, and select yarn.

Bring sizes G, H, and I crochet hooks (preferably Boye brand) and one skein of #4 (worsted weight) yarn in a light solid color to the first meeting.  Patterns for simple projects will be provided.  If you have any questions about the class, please email the instructor at hollytennent!att.net.

Self-Care Workshop

Self-Care with Essential Oils, Self-Massage & Reiki Techniques

Take a day for yourself to learn self massage techniques and tension release methods.  An introduction to Reiki and self energy healing, in this class you will also learn about essential oils and aromatherapy to enhance relaxation and other health benefits.  Good for those who are caregivers and anyone needing some self care in their life.

Hula Hoop Fun!

Do you need some lively exercise in your life?  Do you remember being a kid and just picking up that hula hoop and just going for hours while listening to your favorite tunes?  This class is designed with fun in mind!  You will be amazed at how hula hooping strengthens your core and helps with balance.  It is a fun, motivating way to get your exercise!  Some hula hoops are available for class use, but if you have your own, bring it to class!

Traditional Chinese cooking…even healthier!  Ms. Meng teaches how to incorporate tons of flavor in traditional Chinese home cooking – vegetarian style!  You will learn easy-to-make recipes that are packed full with flavor.  Learn balanced, healthy meals for yourself and your family!  Ms. Meng has been cooking for over 40 years and is an expert in Chinese cuisine.

Class starts Monday, 8/27-10/15 from 6:00-8:00pm, and cost is $139.  All of our cooking classes include a culinary experience with our expert instructors, hands-on cooking for the students, the cost of food, new recipes and the joy of learning to cook something new!
