Lifelong Learning

Meet Susan-Jean, a lifelong learner!

Susan-Jean is one of our “star students” here at Community Ed!  Over the years, she has taken many classes with us, including computers, fitness, horsemanship, crochet and more!  She is a college graduate, mom of two now adult kids who encouraged her to get some computer skills in order to keep in touch and stay up to date through email, texting, etc.  Computer classes led to exercise classes, and Susan-Jean is a regular in our morning exercise classes three days a week, and she attributes her mature fitness level to these classes!

“I love knowledge, I love information and the classes give me an opportunity to learn something new.  There is delight and fun for everybody!”  -Susan-Jean

Wikipedia defines lifelong learning as the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional reasons. Therefore, it not only enhances social inclusion, active citizenship, and personal development, but also self-sustainability, as well as competitiveness and employability.

Lifelong learners are motivated to learn and develop because they want to: it is a deliberate and voluntary act

And – learning for its own sake brings its own advantages. For example, learning in whatever context:

  1. Boosts our confidence and self-esteem
  2. Makes us less risk averse and more adaptable to change when it happens
  3. Helps us achieve a more satisfying personal life
  4. Challenges our ideas and beliefs
  5. Can be fun!

Here at Clovis Community Ed we strive to offer a variety of classes to bring you opportunities for lifelong learning!  Our catalog of courses comes out three times a year, and each time you’ll find old favorites as well as brand new classes to expand your knowledge, fitness, and skills.  Our two favorite sayings are Learn Something New and Do it for fun, do it for life!

You can view our current catalog on our website – click on the photo of the catalog on the lower right side of the page to view a digital version of all our classes.  And watch that space, as well as your mailbox, for our Spring and Summer catalog due out April 18th!  We are finalizing all the details now and it’s heading to the printer soon!
