We will be working either on the potter's wheel or using hand-build methods to create. These methods will include pinching, coiling and slab form techniques. Students will create functional and non-functional pottery, using stoneware and porcelain clays. The firing will be done using the electric and gas kilns. Glazing will be done twice during the class. The glazing will be completed using the dipping, pouring and brushing techniques with stoneware glazes. Fred Figueroa taught ceramics in the Clovis Unified School District for forty-two years in the art department at the high school and middle school level, before retiring in 2014. The first night of class a supply list will be distributed, and we will begin creating your wonderful works of art. No class meeting 9/28-makeup on 10/7, 11/23. Basic quilting knowledge is required. Students must know how to operate and troubleshoot their own machines. The first night of class we will discuss the project and supplies needed. Does the thought of using a sewing machine seem daunting? This class is great for the absolute beginner! We will cover all the basics you need to get started from setting up your machine to learning basic sewing techniques. Students will complete 3 projects. Students will learn the following techniques: Straight, French and encased seams, turning/pivoting corners, box corners, hemming, creating handles and a casing. The instructor has been sewing for 20+ years and is a 3rd generation seamstress. Students will need to provide their own sewing machine and materials. The first night of class is discussion only, you will not need to bring your machine. We will go over all the materials needed. W 5:30-8:30pm 8/25-10/6 7 Classes CAE E1 Smith $149 MUSIC BEGINNING UKULELE The ukulele has exploded in popularity over the past 10 years, and now it’s time for you to get in on the fun. Come join us and share in the “Aloha” spirit. This class is for the total beginner, no experience necessary. The course starts at the basic level for the person who has never played the instrument. You will learn all the basics; parts of the instrument, how to hold, tune, strum, chords, and a little history. You will be playing within the first class. Students will need to provide their own instrument. Music and handouts will be provided. No class meeting 11/3, 11/24.
