We all like to look at the latest photographs from space probes or large observatories. We may hear about ice being found on the moon or water on Mars. This is all fascinating information, but not something you would likely see on your own. Just what astronomical objects or phenomena can you observe and/or follow from your own backyard or on a camping trip? Learn of the many astronomical sightings you can make using your own eyes or with the help of binoculars or small telescopes. If you have ever contemplated the purchase of binoculars or a telescope, this class will be a big help in deciding which models to choose. The class would also be helpful if you are having problems with already acquired equipment. This class will highlight the “unaided eye” astronomy; so you are ready to observe at any time. Bring note-taking materials to class. The teacher will recommend some handy and inexpensive star maps that you can purchase online. To highlight what you’re learning, after most classes, there will be a voluntary observing session of the night sky at a local park, weather and moon phase permitting.
