ACADEMIC EDUCATION English as a Second Language (ESL) Call 559.327.2863 · Melissa Holdener, Learning Director · Crystal Rodriguez, Guidance and Learning Specialist · Maria Wyatt, Student Activities Specialist 10 QUARTER DATES ESL CLASSES INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS CLOVIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE ESL CLASSES CONVERSATION/ PRONUNCIATION CLASS 1st Quarter 8/17/2026 - 10/23/2026 2nd Quarter 10/26/2026 - 1/15/2027 Registration Process for ESL: ■ You must be at least 18 years old. ■ Fill out a registration form online at www.clovisadult.cusd.com ■ The testing coordinator will contact you to schedule an orientation and placement test. ■ If you do not show up for your scheduled test, you will not be able to register until the next term. ■ On testing day, bring a government issued photo I.D. or passport. ESL Classes are designed for adults who wish to improve their English language skills. There are morning and evening classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced learners. Instruction includes listening, reading, writing and speaking skills presented in a fun yet challenging learning environment. Computer based curriculum complements lessons and reinforces learning the content. Classes prepare students to: ■ Improve English reading, writing, and speaking skills ■ Obtain a better job ■ Become more involved in their children’s education ■ Learn to communicate family health needs ■ Become involved in community activities and learn citizenship skills The CASAS reading placement test will determine your class level. No one may enter after testing begins and no children are allowed in the testing room or on campus. After 40 hours of attendance students must take a CASAS post-test to determine academic growth. Have fun conversing with other students on relevant, real world topics and events. Practice the most common challenges in sound, spelling patterns, syllables, word endings, rhythms, and intonations. This computer-training course provides a basic introduction to word processing, Internet use, and sending/ receiving email. The course is designed for ESL students and any CAE student that wants to improve their computer skills. Students will be introduced to computer vocabulary and use reading comprehension to better prepare them for career tech classes, as well as expected skills for college or a professional work environment. Attendance is mandatory for this class. If a student has 3 absences in a row or 5 total absences, they will be dropped. 1st Quarter 8/17/2026 - 10/23/2026 2nd Quarter 10/26/2026 - 1/15/2027 Students who are enrolled in Clovis Adult Education High Intermediate or Advanced ESL classes may also enroll in ESL 313 or ESL 314 classes offered by Clovis Community College on our campus.
