17 English as a Second Language (ESL) Call 559.327.2863 · Marcus Terrazas ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) ESL CLASS OFFERINGS CAN HELP PREPARE STUDENTS TO: ■■ Improve English reading, writing, and speaking skills ■■ Obtain a better job ■■ Become more involved in their children’s education ■■ Learn to communicate family health needs ■■ Become involved in community activities and learn citizenship skills To Register for ESL you will need to: ■■ Bring a Passport or Photo Identification ■■ You will fill out a registration form. ■■ All classes are Open Entry/Open Exit ■■ Take a placement test. Testing Days are on: ■■ Monday at 8:30 am and 10:30 am ■■ Tuesday at 8:30 am and 10:30 am or 5:30 pm ■■ In Room D-6 ■■ No testing Monday May 28th Monday June 18th Tuesday June 19th The reading placement test will determine your class level. No one may enter after testing begins and no children are allowed in the testing room. You will be post- tested at the end of each quarter to see if you can advance to the next class level. Fifteen credits of lower level English may be transferred towards your high school English credits. QUARTER DATES 4th Quarter 4/3/18 – 6/13/18 Summer 7/2/18 – 8/9/18 ESL Morning and evening ESL classes are designed for adults who wish to improve their English language skills through instruction in reading, writing, listening. Computer based curriculum is included at all levels. CONVERSATION/PRONUNCIATION Have fun conversing with other students on relevant, real world topics and events. Practice the most common challenges in sound spelling patterns, syllables, word endings, rhythms, and intonations. M-TH 1:00-3:00pm 4/3/18 – 6/13/18 CAE D15 Franz WRITING AND CONVERSATION Practice your writing skills in our new ESL writing class. Learn the basics of sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. M/W 5:30-8:30pm 4/3/18 – 6/13/18 CAE D10 Sumner CITIZENSHIP CLASSES The class prepares foreign-born students for the citizenship test to become naturalized U.S. citizens. A brief summary of U.S. History and an explanation of the U.S. system of government are presented. All citizenship testing is done by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
