Now is the time. The purpose of this small class is to give you the essential skills to create and maintain your own bonsai. Through discussion, images, and demonstrations you will gain the confidence to shape your tree. There will be a $25 materials fee to pay for a tree and container. Have you had your DNA tested but need guidance on how to reach out to total strangers you’re related to? Have you ever wondered whatever happened to someone in your past? Have you reached a brick wall in researching your family tree? Are you curious about what your own background check looks like on the internet? In this class you will be guided in the free online and confidential construction of and research for your own family tree. For those who are adopted or have given a child up for adoption and are wanting to find birth relatives it is suggested to have your DNA tested prior to class. Due to the nature of historical documents, knowing how to read cursive is a plus. Former Fresno Police Chaplain, Juli Kaprielian Ward, was adopted. She found her birth parents at age 20 before the internet and DNA-testing were made available. In adoption she was youngest of twelve children, and in her birth family she is the eldest of twelve half-siblings. A deck of 52 cards is dealt to four players and then partners bid on how many tricks they can take and determine the trump suit. When the hand is played, one player puts their cards face up on the table for both his partner and the opponents to see. This series of classes will cover the basics of contract bridge, including modern bidding methods and strategies to play hands. This class is for those who have never played and for those who haven't played for years and want to learn the latest techniques. T 6:15-8:15pm 5/9-6/20 7 Classes Fresno Bridge Center Austin $109 ORGANIC GARDENING In this class, we will cover many topics that will help you to learn about urban/organic gardening. You will learn about companion plants that reduce or eliminate the need for pesticides and/or chemical fertilizers; trap or sacrificial plants that lure predatory insects away from desirable fruits and vegetables; making and using compost to build soil and reduce the need for chemical fertilizers; and pruning to make trees more productive and accessible to reduce harvesting labor and costs. Students will learn to recognize and how to grow medicinal herbs. We will discuss basic drip irrigation and making and using permanent concrete forms for raised beds. The instructor will talk about appropriate tools for a small operation garden. Informational sheets will be distributed by the instructor.
