MINDFULNESS Would you like to improve your self- care, and learn valuable skills that will improve your overall emotional wellness? Practicing Mindfulness is a research-based strategy that can be practiced anywhere, any time of day or night. This class will follow a curriculum that will facilitate hands on learning and develop a sense of community within our class, giving you the tools to practice independently as well. MEDITATION Meditation can increase mindfulness through the awareness that arises by engaging attention in the present moment. We will take time to involve some different forms of meditation (silent or guided), practices that attend to the self in activity (e.g. body scans, awareness of breath or the self in gentle movement). AGING IN PLACE: WHERE TO BEGIN This course covers aging services and programs available throughout our Central Valley. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines aging in place as "the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level." We will give you information that will prepare you for today’s caregiving, aging with dignity, and help you improve your quality of life. Adapted from our Family Caregiver Support Series. W 2:00-4:00pm 2/19 1 Class CAE D9 Rodriguez $15 FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT SERIES Every week a different topic will be covered in this Family Caregiver Support series. The first class will help you plan for future care and/or plan for current care for a loved one. In addition, you will learn tips on managing caregiver stress and burnout. During the second week, we will review Adult Day Centers that specialize in Alzheimer and dementia care as well as other care options in our local community. A review of tips for helping a loved one transition into an Adult Day Program or in-home care will be discussed. Now for the third week, we will review the basics of Medicare, supplemental Plans, Prescription drugs, Medicare Advantage plans, Long Term Care, Appeals, and other important updates for Family Caregivers and for those with Medicare. In addition, a review of Medi-Cal Programs and Services and Veterans benefits will be covered. In the fourth week, Family Caregivers will learn more about long-term care services that are provided either in the home, in long- term care facilities, and the appropriate advocacy services that are available in each setting.
