AGES 14+ This is a drawing/sketching class where the key component and primary source of inspiration is the imagination. There are no prerequisites, and/or formal art skills required. The only requirement is an open mind and a curiosity to discover, invent, reinvent, and create magical characters, and worlds drawn from your individual imagination, and have fun doing it! While the primary focus will dwell in the realms of the Fantasy genres, there will be opportunities to explore additional subject matter such as superheroes, etc. This class is also an excellent starting point for someone who is interested in pursuing a career as a professional concept artist. We will be working either on the potter's wheel or using hand-build methods to create. These methods will include pinching, coiling and slab form techniques. Students will create functional and non-functional pottery, using stoneware and porcelain clays. The firing will be done using the electric and gas kilns. Glazing will be done twice during the class. The glazing will be completed using the dipping, pouring and brushing techniques with stoneware glazes. Fred Figueroa taught ceramics in the Clovis Unified School District for forty-two years in the art department at the high school and middle school level, before retiring in 2014. The first night of class a supply list will be distributed, and we will begin creating your wonderful works of art. No class meeting 3/30, 4/20 - makeup on 4/29. Does the thought of using a sewing machine seem daunting? This class is great for the absolute beginner! We will cover all the basics you need to get started from setting up your machine to learning basic sewing techniques. Students will complete 3 projects. Students will learn the following techniques: Straight, French and encased seams, turning/pivoting corners, box corners, hemming, creating handles and a casing. The instructor has been sewing for 20+ years and is a 3rd generation seamstress. Students will need to provide their own sewing machine and materials.
