17 English as a Second Language (ESL) Call 559.327.2863 · Marcus Terrazas ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) QUARTER DATES 3rd Quarter 1/18/22 - 3/25/22 4th Quarter 3/28/22 - 6/3/22 Registration Procedure for ESL: ■ You must be at least 18 years old. ■ Fill out a registration form online at ■ The testing coordinator will contact you to schedule an orientation and placement test. ■ If you do not show up for your scheduled test, you will not be able to register until the next term. ■ On testing day, bring a government issued photo I.D. or passport. ESL Morning and evening ESL classes are designed for adults who wish to improve their English language skills through instruction in reading, writing, and listening. Computer based curriculum is included at all levels. Classes prepare students to: ■ Improve English reading, writing, and speaking skills ■ Obtain a better job ■ Become more involved in their children’s education ■ Learn to communicate family health needs ■ Become involved in community activities and learn citizenship skills The CASAS reading placement test will determine your class level. No one may enter after testing begins and nochildren are allowed in the testing room. You will be post-tested at the end of each quarter to see if you can advance to the next class level. Fifteen credits of lower level English may be transferred towards your high school diploma English credits. CONVERSATION / PRONUNCIATION Have fun conversing with other students on relevant, real world topics and events. Practice the most common challenges in sound spelling patterns, syllables, word endings, rhythms, and intonations. 2nd Quarter M-TH 1:00-3:00 pm M/W 5:30 - 8:30 pm 3rd Quarter M-TH 1:00- 3:00 pm M-TH 5:30 -8:30 pm CITIZENSHIP CLASSES This class prepares foreign-born students for the citizenship test to become naturalized U.S. citizens. A brief summary of U.S. History and an explanation of the U.S. system of government are presented. In this class you will be introduced to basic computer skills that will increase your literacy with technology. You will learn to navigate the screens of your computer and how to switch between multiple windows . Topics covered include technology vocabulary, searching the internet, sending and receiving emails, and using Microsoft Office programs. If you need the basics , you need this class!
