AGES 14+ This is a drawing/sketching class where the key component and primary source of inspiration is “The Imagination”. The class doesn't require any prerequisites, nor formal drawing nor art-making skills per se. The only requirement is an open mind, a curiosity to discover, invent, reinvent and create magical characters, and worlds drawn from your individual imagination, and have fun doing it! While the primary focus of our projects will dwell heavily in the realms of the fantasy and science fiction genres, there will be opportunities to explore other areas such as superheroes, etc. The class is also an excellent starting point for someone who is interested in pursuing a career as a professional “concept artist” Art that is prominently featured in video games, movies, television, comics, and graphic novels, etc. For additional information, and a list of required materials email the instructor at meta4creative@sbcglobal.net. We will be working either on the potter's wheel or using hand-build methods to create. These methods will include pinching, coiling and slab form techniques. Students will create functional and non-functional pottery, using stoneware and porcelain clays. The firing will be done using the electric and gas kilns. Glazing will be done twice during the class. The glazing will be completed using the dipping, pouring and brushing techniques with stoneware glazes. Fred Figueroa taught ceramics in the Clovis Unified School District for forty-two years in the art department at the high school and middle school level, before retiring in 2014. The first night of class a supply list will be distributed, and we will begin creating your wonderful works of art. No class meeting 4/12. For the beginner/self-taught quilters we will start with the fundamentals of quilting. For those that are returning, we will continue with more block and piecing techniques. Some quilting/sewing experience is preferred but not required. Students must provide their own sewing machine and know how to operate and troubleshoot it. Students will also provide their own supplies. First-time students, the first class is a lecture, you do not need to bring your machine, we will discuss the project and supplies needed.
