26 Community Education | 559.327.2876 COMMUNITY EDUCATION SEWING Are you interested in sewing but not sure where to start? Does the thought of using a sewing machine seem daunting? This class is great for the absolute beginner! We will cover all the basics you need to get started from setting up your machine to learning basic sewing techniques. Students will complete 3 projects. Students will learn the following techniques: Straight, French and encased seams, turning/pivoting corners, box corners, hemming, creating handles and a casing. The instructor has been sewing for 20+ years and is a 3rd generation seamstress. Students will need to provide their own sewing machine and materials. The first night of class is discussion only, you will not need to bring your machine. We will go over all the materials needed. No class meeting 1/19. Looking for some creative ways to prepare foods you enjoy? Are making healthy meals something you are interested in learning? This cooking course will teach you how to prepare tasty, healthy, food items and learn how to make your meals nutritionally balanced. You will learn a lesson, prepare the food, and eat a meal in every class! Celeste Alexander is a nutritionist with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from Cal State Fresno. She has been featured in the Fresno Bee for her unique approach to nutrition education, and hosted workshops at Whole Foods on subjects from teen nutrition to charcuterie. We will be cooking fresh, healthy low carb meals while learning about nutrition and how food can help maintain good health. No class meeting 4/14. Come join us and share in the “Aloha” spirit. This class is for the total beginner, no experience necessary. The course starts at the basic level for the person who has never played the instrument. You will learn all the basics; parts of the instrument, how to hold, tune, strum, chords, and a little history. You will be playing within the first class.
