We will be working either on the potter's wheel or using hand-build methods to create. These methods will include pinching, coiling, and slab form techniques. Students will create functional and non-functional pottery, using stoneware and porcelain clays. The firing will be done using the electric and gas kilns. Glazing will be done twice during the class. The glazing will be completed using the dipping, pouring, and brushing techniques with stoneware glazes. Fred Figueroa taught ceramics in the Clovis Unified School District for forty-two years in the art department at the high school and middle school level, before retiring in 2014. Does the thought of using a sewing machine seem daunting? This class is great for the absolute beginner! We will cover all the basics you need to get started from setting up your machine to learning basic sewing techniques. Students will complete 3 projects and learn the following techniques: Straight, French and encased seams, turning/pivoting corners, box corners, hemming, creating handles and a casing. The instructor has been sewing for 20+ years and is a 3rd generation seamstress. Students will need to provide their own sewing machine and materials. The first night of class is discussion only, you will not need to bring your machine. Students must provide their own sewing machine and know how to operate and troubleshoot it. The class projects will focus on sewing in the round, simple zipper insertion, gathering and a basic waist casing. Students must also provide their own supplies. The first night of class is a lecture, you do not need to bring your machine, we will discuss the projects and supplies needed. No class meeting 4/5, 4/26.
