Want to try a new way of expressing your artistic side? Explore the art of collage-making! This class will explore a few techniques of creating something new from something old! Combining magazine clippings, photos, and other forms of print, students will discover the art of combining multiple elements of “unrelated” things to form cohesive, unique pieces that have a unified message/point of view. This is a largely generative class, so come ready to create! We will explore 3 different styles. No class meeting 3/26. T 6:00-7:30pm 3/12-4/30 7 Classes CAE D1 Hawkins $79 DRAWING FROM THE IMAGINATION! AGES 14+ This is a drawing/sketching class where the key component and primary source of inspiration is“The Imagination”. The class doesn't require any prerequisites, nor formal drawing or art- making skills perse. The only requirement is an open mind, a curiosity to discover, invent, reinvent and create magical characters, and worlds drawn from your individual imagination, and have fun doing it! While the primary focus will dwell in the realms of Fantasy and Science Fiction, and its genres, there will be opportunities to explore other areas such as Superheroes, etc. The class is also an excellent starting point for someone who is interested in pursuing a career as a professional “concept artist”. We will be working either on the potter's wheel or using hand-build methods to create. These methods will include pinching, coiling, and slab form techniques. Students will create functional and non-functional pottery, using stoneware and porcelain clays. The firing will be done using the electric and gas kilns. Glazing will be done twice during the class. The glazing will be completed using the dipping, pouring, and brushing techniques with stoneware glazes. Fred Figueroa taught ceramics in the Clovis Unified School District for forty-two years in the art department at the high school and middle school level, before retiring in 2014. As participants hone their skills in leveling, layering, and base frosting, they will also be introduced to the art of piping, exploring both foundational techniques and more intricate designs. From crafting simple dots and lines to mastering ruffles, ombre effects, and buttercream flowers, students will be equipped to create a range of stunning textures and patterns. The final week will be dedicated to a personalized cake project, allowing participants to put their newfound skills to the test with a showstopping creation. This class is the perfect blend of instruction and hands-on practice, making it ideal for individuals new to cake decorating or those looking to refine their buttercream artistry.
