Backpacking for Beginners
Have you never backpacked, but want to start? Went on a trip years ago and need current information on what gear is out there? Or been on a few trips and want to improve the comfort of the experience? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we’ve got just the class for you!
This overview of how to choose gear, how to plan a trip, and current considerations for backpacking the Sierra Nevada will have you on your way to enjoying the magnificent mountains we have pretty much right in the backyard of Fresno/Clovis. This class offers a thorough look at gear, safety, wilderness ethics, different styles of packing from heavy/traditional loads to ultralight, and how NOT to become a search and rescue subject!
Class will include an overnight outing on August 5th-6th, which will be rescheduled to the following weekend in the event of inclement weather. Gear can be borrowed or rented for the trip.
Class meets two nights, Wednesday & Thursday 8/2-8/3 from 6:00-8:00pm, with the overnight trek on the weekend, 8/5-8/6. Registration is $109. Grab a friend or family member and get ready for some adventure with this great class!
